Singapore and Hong Kong Crackdown on Wild Pigeons Due to Health Risks

Reported about 1 year ago

Wild pigeons in Singapore are being targeted for management due to their high breeding rate and potential to carry diseases like histoplasmosis, cryptococcosis, and psittacosis. Authorities are implementing actions to control the pigeon population by limiting food sources and resorting to humane destruction methods. On the other hand, Hong Kong is imposing a heavy fine of up to 420,000 HKD for feeding wild pigeons under the revised Wildlife Protection Ordinance, effective from August 1, 2024. The move aims to curb the overpopulation of pigeons, which can lead to disease transmission and public health issues.
