Small Christian Pennsylvania College to Close Due to Fiscal Woes

Reported 12 months ago

Clarks Summit University in Pennsylvania, a small religious school, is closing due to financial stress, becoming the latest in a string of closures for small colleges facing declining enrollment and increasing costs. The challenges are particularly tough for religious colleges, as fewer young people identify with organized faith. Despite efforts to bridge the financial gap, the school cannot offer classes in the fall. Established 90 years ago as a seminary in New York, CSU had over 500 students in fall 2022 but saw a 20% decline from the previous year. The university will assist current students in transferring and allow those in summer courses to complete their studies.
