Yahoo News reported on June 29, 2024, that six years ago, a man named Xie instructed his accomplices to hide 339 kilograms of methamphetamine in car wheel rims and transport them to Nagoya, Japan, where they were intercepted by Japanese authorities. The Taichung District Court sentenced Xie to life imprisonment for damaging Taiwan's image and perpetrating serious offenses. Xie was found guilty of organizing the drug smuggling operation and overseeing the packaging and transportation process. The court's ruling stated that Xie's actions significantly tarnished Taiwan's reputation, leading to the severe penalty.
