A sergeant surnamed Wu from the Mechanized Infantry of the Tenth Army Corps in Taiwan used his financial duties to deceive 12 soldiers into believing they had to return excess combat allowances from their training, pocketing NT$140,000 to purchase luxury goods. Upon the fraud being discovered, Wu was reported, taken to court, and eventually sentenced to 2 years in prison for corruption. He confessed, returned the illicit gains, and received forgiveness from some victims, leading to a lenient sentence with probation and restrictions.
