South Africa's inflation rate increased by 3% in December, lower than the 3.2% that economists had predicted, leading to expectations for a potential interest rate cut later this month. The central bank has already reduced rates by 50 basis points since September, and experts foresee a 25-basis-point cut could occur as early as January 30, despite a cautious approach due to global inflation concerns. The main contributors to the December inflation were housing and miscellaneous goods, with the average inflation for 2024 recorded at 4.4%.
