South Korea Accelerates EV Battery Certification Scheme Following Fire Incidents

Reported about 2 months ago

In response to public safety concerns raised after several EV fires, South Korea's government is expediting its electric vehicle battery certification program, set to commence in October. This initiative aims to ensure the safety of EV batteries and requires automakers to disclose the battery manufacturers used in their vehicles. Following a significant fire in August that damaged numerous cars, the government plans to revise safety measures, including the installation of sprinkler systems in parking areas with EV chargers, despite studies indicating that EVs are generally less prone to fires than traditional vehicles.
