On June 11, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that North Korean troops crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) on the 9th and retreated after receiving warning shots from South Korean forces. The incident occurred in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) where some North Korean soldiers crossed into the MDL and moved north after South Korean warnings. Officials speculated the soldiers may have crossed unintentionally while using tools near the border. The delay in publicizing the event was seen as an attempt to prevent further escalation between the two Koreas.
