South Korea has been experiencing a natural population decline for 53 months as the number of newborns has been lower than the number of deaths, with predictions indicating a significant decrease in population across various regions including Seoul, Busan, and Ulsan in about 30 years. In an effort to address the low fertility rate, Seoul has initiated new experimental policies such as reducing the criteria for public housing to be accessible to newlywed couples without children. The latest statistics show a decrease in the total fertility rate, raising concerns about further decline. By 2052, South Korea's population is projected to reduce by over 10% compared to 2022, with most regions experiencing decreases except for a few areas like Sejong City and Gyeonggi Province.
