In Hwaseong City, South Korea, on June 24, 2024, at around 10:30 am local time, a lithium battery factory caught fire in a storage area suspected to contain 35,000 lithium batteries, leading to explosions. The fire, exacerbated by the presence of flammable materials and lack of fire suppression systems, resulted in 21 confirmed fatalities with the numbers expected to rise. With the factory heavily damaged, rescue efforts are ongoing amid concerns of collapse.
