On June 24, 2024, around 10:30 am local time, a lithium battery factory warehouse in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea operated by Aricell, exploded causing a massive fire. The fire department dispatched 145 firefighters and dozens of fire trucks to control the fire; later, over 20 charred bodies were discovered in the factory, suspected to be among the 23 missing individuals, with 20 being foreigners, 2 South Koreans, and 1 unknown nationality. The exact number of casualties is still being confirmed.
