South Korea Resumes 'Psychological Warfare Broadcast' to North Korea After 6 Years, Plays BTS Songs

Reported 10 months ago

South Korea has resumed broadcasting 'psychological warfare' messages to North Korea for the first time in 6 years in response to more than 300 balloons carrying trash launched by North Korea drifting into South Korea. In addition to conveying actual conditions in North Korea, the broadcasts also feature popular South Korean songs by artists like BTS. North Korea warns of new countermeasures if South Korea continues leaflet drops and restarts broadcasts, raising concerns over inter-Korean tensions. The broadcasts play through loudspeakers near the border, allowing North Koreans in border cities to hear them, with a mixture of information about North Korea's nuclear program, missile provocations, and South Korean government propaganda.
