On June 11, 2024, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck North Jeolla Province, South Korea, causing a scare among residents. The quake was felt across regions including Gangwon, Seoul, and Gyeongsang, with the epicenter only 8 kilometers deep. The quake was the strongest in South Korea in 2024, with the previous similar intensity one occurring back in May 2023 and in 2018. Various areas reported feelings of shaking, with minor property damage but no casualties. Schools evacuated children, and despite the timing during rush hour, many continued on with their day unaffected.
