South Korea plans to maintain its ban on short-selling until a system is developed to detect illegal trading activities, as announced by a senior official at the presidential office. The ban, initially set to expire by the end of June, may extend further as the system is still in early stages of development. The government imposed the ban in November to curb "rampant" naked shorting, and while there are hopes for a partial resumption of the strategy, it will likely be contingent on the establishment of a centralized monitoring system by the Korea Exchange to prevent irregularities.
