On June 24, 2024, at 2:28 a.m., a serious fire broke out at a lithium battery factory in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, resulting in 1 known fatality, 1 severe burn victim, 5 minor injuries, and 21 missing employees. The fire started around 10:30 a.m. and affected a 3-story, 2300-square-meter factory storing a large quantity of lithium batteries, making it challenging to extinguish. Thick smoke covered several kilometers around the factory, and efforts by 145 firefighters and 50 rescue vehicles were initiated.
