In Seoul, South Korea, professors at hospitals like Seoul National University Hospital are starting indefinite suspensions to support interns and resident doctors opposing the government's plan to increase recruitment. 529 professors at hospitals including Seoul National University Hospital, Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, and Gangnam Center have joined the indefinite suspensions, with a total of 873 professors supporting the strike. This could lead to a 40% reduction in medical services, but treatment for critical and rare diseases will continue as normal. The South Korean government is implementing emergency duty rotation systems to ensure patients receive timely treatment, and requesting medical institutions in certain regions to create shift schedules for emergency care even on holidays. Hospitals that suffer losses due to the strike are being asked to compensate; failure to do so may result in removal from the national health insurance prepayment list.
