Reported 12 months ago

In South Korea, a petition website at the National Assembly launched a request for the immediate impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol on June 20th, which has gathered over 930,000 signatures within 12 days. The petitioners listed five main impeachment reasons, including allegations of Yoon's interference in the investigation of a marine soldier drowning case, the first lady's involvement in corruption, causing tension in inter-Korean relations, pro-Japanese policies, and failure to stop Japan from discharging Fukushima nuclear wastewater. The Presidential Office of South Korea stated on the 2nd that without clear violations of the law, actual impeachment of the president is unlikely, denouncing political impeachment as disrupting national governance.
