In Nantou, southern Taiwan, a decades-old large banyan tree suddenly collapsed at Dunhe Elementary School in Caotun Town, two streets, Dunhe Road and Ren'ai Street. A female motorcyclist passing by was crushed by the falling tree and was rescued by firefighters, but was found without vital signs. She is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. The school principal mentioned that the banyan tree had undergone a health check last year, which discovered a disease on a different tree in the front of the campus, but the cause of the collapse of the tree that injured the motorcyclist remains unknown.
