Southwest Airlines fired pilot David Legeros for allowing the First Officer to fly the plane during an emergency in which an engine burst into flames, while he communicated with air traffic control and reassured passengers in Spanish and English. Legeros filed a complaint against the airline, alleging that he was reprimanded and subsequently grounded from flight status for his actions. Southwest Airlines defended their decision to dismiss Legeros, stating that all pilots are expected to follow safety procedures.
