Southwest Power Pool Becomes First US Grid Operator to Span Both Coasts

The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) has received approval from energy regulators to expand its territory, making it the first regional grid operator in the U.S. to connect the western and eastern electrical interconnections. This transition will allow SPP to enhance electricity management and market participation across 17 states, aiding local power providers in improving service reliability and customer costs starting in April 2026.
