In 2024, Spotify's royalty payments to artists from Nigeria and South Africa soared to around $59 million, fueled by a surge in global interest in African music. The company distributed approximately $10 billion in royalties worldwide, with significant growth observed among up-and-coming Nigerian artists, whose royalties more than doubled to $38 million, and South African artists, who earned $21 million—a 54% increase from the previous year. Approximately 250 million playlists feature Nigerian artists, while 220 million include South African performers, reflecting the growing international recognition of these artists.
