On June 14, 2024, in Changhua City, Taiwan, 160 households experienced a power outage for 40 minutes due to a squirrel being electrocuted on a transformer on Zhongshan Road. The squirrel accidentally touched the fuse switch of the transformer, resulting in its death and the power outage. This incident is not the first time that animals have caused power outages in Taiwan, as similar accidents involving snakes, rats, birds, and geckos have occurred before.
