Sri Lanka Raises Visa Fees

Reported 8 months ago

After switching visa systems in April, Sri Lanka faced backlash as the visa fee for incoming travelers doubled to $100, but has now been capped at $50 to calm the controversy and support tourism. The increase was due to switching from the old Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system to VFS Global's visa system. Despite criticism over complicated procedures and fees, the government hopes this decision will aid in the growth of the tourism industry, which has been striving to recover from pandemic and economic crises.
