Maryana Checheliuk, a 24-year-old Ukrainian policewoman, was starved, beaten, and abused for two years as a prisoner of war by Russian forces before being released in a prisoner exchange. Her harrowing experience included being held in a prisoner of war camp, where her health rapidly declined. Despite enduring severe mistreatment, she finally returned home noticeably frail and in tears, reuniting with her family after a long and traumatic captivity.
