Stellantis saw a drastic 37% decline in vehicle production in Italy in 2024, representing the lowest output in 68 years, according to union data. The company attributed the drop to a major decrease in car manufacturing and is addressing overcapacity through state-funded layoffs. Despite plans to increase production starting in 2026 with new model launches, demand remains weak, especially for electric vehicles. The FIM-CISL union indicates the urgent need to reassess EU carbon emission targets as the European auto industry faces significant challenges.
