Story of Sea Harvesters: Chiayi Image Exhibition Provides Taiwanese Guided Tours

Reported 11 months ago

Dubbed as the 'Hometown of Cuttlefish,' Qieding in Chiayi was home to a glorious fishing record in 1978 when local fishing boats caught 80,000 cuttlefish, a feat proudly remembered by the elderly residents. The 'Stories of Qieding Sea Harvesters' image exhibition, organized by National Kaohsiung University of Education and Qieding Jinlan Temple, showcases the marine life struggles in the Qieding area from the 1950s to the 2000s. The exhibition features over 30 precious old photos, historical records of the Jinlan Temple's sacrificial offering processions, and 20 handmade embroidered costumes from the 1937, 1949, and 1957 ceremonies for deity worship. The aim is to educate younger generations on the local history of Qieding. Visitors can scan QR codes for Taiwanese audio guides and use interactive Romanized Taiwanese handheld boards to connect with the mother tongue, promoting ocean education and enhancing maritime literacy for all.
