The Straits Forum opened today with remarks from Wang Huning, the Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, stating that Taiwan has always belonged to China and Taiwan compatriots are naturally part of the Chinese nation. He emphasized that despite not being fully unified, Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity have never been divided, and the unity of one country and one nation for both sides remains unchanged. Wang stressed that unity is beneficial while division is harmful, criticizing Taiwan independence for risking conflict, and called for upholding the One China principle and the 1992 Consensus to ensure peace in the Taiwan Strait. He highlighted efforts to promote cross-strait integration and development, aiming to deepen understanding and trust between both sides. Wang also stated that people's will cannot be violated, and that the power of the people will overcome any obstacles hindering cross-strait relations.
