Reported over 1 year ago
New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-yi took a leave last year to run for the 2024 presidential election, sparking an online movement to recall him. Today, self-proclaimed leader of the 'Recall Hou Yu-yi Self-Help Association' Guo Jia-qi, along with 3 members, went to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office to file a lawsuit against a former team member surnamed Wang, accusing him of embezzlement and obstructing the recall petition. Guo stated that since January 20, the member responsible for keeping the signed petitions left the team in April and refused to hand over the petitions, even threatening to destroy them. Guo emphasized that the signed petitions are for public interest and not for personal gain, urging for their return. They also cautioned the public to be wary of unauthorized political groups soliciting donations for recall campaigns to avoid legal issues.
