A study published in the scientific journal 'Public Library of Science' reveals that although same-sex behavior exists in over 1500 animal species, scientists have significantly underreported it. Researchers found that experts in animal behavior rarely publish their observations on same-sex behavior, with only 18% of them having done so, despite 77% of respondents reporting having witnessed such behavior. The study also highlights that the perception of same-sex behavior as rare in the animal kingdom has been used in debates on the ethics of human homosexuality, but the researchers found it to be quite common and natural. Instances of same-sex behavior have been recorded in various species, including spider monkeys and penguins.
