Study: Weight-loss drugs may reduce the risk of acute pancreatitis recurrence

Reported 4 months ago

A new study suggests that weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy could help lower the risk of pancreatitis recurrence in patients with obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Research found that patients taking semaglutide had a lower recurrence rate compared to those taking SGLT2 inhibitors, DPP4 inhibitors, or no drugs at all. The study, presented at the Endocrine Society's annual meeting, challenges previous concerns about prescribing semaglutide to patients with a history of pancreatitis, highlighting the potential of GLP-1 receptor agonists to effectively manage the disease.
