Subsidizing Taiwan Power: Scholar Says It Aligns with International Trends

Reported about 1 year ago

In response to the debate on whether to subsidize Taiwan Power, different opinions exist - Germany, Japan and even nuclear power leader France have all adopted financial subsidy policies. Following the Russia-Ukraine war, international energy prices soared, prompting various countries to implement subsidy policies and restrict electricity price hikes. Scholars suggest that if Parliament cuts subsidies for Taiwan Power, everyone will lose in the end. The Economic Institute Director and others agree that subsidizing is a short-term policy tool to address Taiwan Power's significant losses, but they urge adjustments in electricity pricing structure to ensure industrial usage reflects the actual costs and not repeatedly subsidize export industries like semiconductors.
