Reported about 1 year ago

TVBS News, June 16, 2024: Larus saundersi, a protected species, has seen a significant increase in population in recent years due to the establishment of conservation areas in Yilan and Taoyuan, where their nesting process is closely monitored. Efforts have led to the successful establishment of nearly 400 Larus saundersi nests in Yilan, with three conservation areas set up throughout Yilan. Taoyuan has also dedicated areas such as the G3 zone in the power plant for Larus saundersi nesting, with around 80 nests currently recorded. Challenges like human and vehicle intrusion persist, but ongoing efforts aim to provide a safe habitat for these birds.
