Sudden Change at 35th Golden Melody Awards: Chinese Contender for Song King Absent an Hour Before Awards Ceremony

Reported about 1 year ago

On the morning of June 29, 2024, at 6:32 AM, Zhou from China was supposed to compete for the Song King title for the third time at the Golden Melody Awards but suddenly announced his absence. The 35th Golden Melody Awards, held today at Taipei Arena, saw Zhou and Hsu, both nominated for Best Mandarin Male Singer, unexpectedly missing from the event just over an hour before the awards ceremony. The anticipation for Zhou, who was nominated in five categories for his album 'Zhou,' was high, but he couldn't attend due to personal reasons. Hsu, nominated in seven categories for his album 'Expectations,' also couldn't attend citing work-related reasons. The Ministry of Culture responded that out of 26 Chinese nominees and teams, some canceled their Taiwan trips due to work scheduling conflicts, including Zhou's team, who arrived in Taiwan on June 27 and 28 but left before the ceremony started, as Zhou felt unwell after arriving in Taiwan from two days of program rehearsals and recordings in China, requiring hospitalization and an immediate return.
