SuHua Frequent Landslides, Scholars: Restoration and Stability to Take at Least 10 Years

Reported 12 months ago

After a strong earthquake, the section of Hualien and Ren to Chongde Road has been frequently covered by landslides and mudflows during heavy rains, affecting train operations with at least 4 incidents of landslides on the railway since April. Scholars believe it will take at least a decade or longer to stabilize the loose soil and suggest long-term planning for possible route changes or construction of bridges or tunnels. Due to the frequent occurrences of landslides on the SuHua railway, experts emphasize the need for extensive planning and proposed alternatives to ensure a safer train route in the future, despite the considerable challenges ahead in implementing these projects.
