Negotiations for a treaty aimed at reducing plastic pollution concluded in Busan, South Korea, without a final agreement. The fifth session of discussions, which included over 3,300 participants from more than 170 countries, ended with plans to reconvene next year. A contentious issue was the proposed limit on plastic production, garnering support from over 100 countries. However, environmental groups and Indigenous leaders expressed disappointment with the limited inclusivity of the talks. Despite the challenges, optimism remains that a treaty will be achieved in future meetings.
