Summer Heat Drives Demand for Home Appliances Stocks

Reported 12 months ago

As the scorching summer arrives and enters the peak season for home appliances, especially with the significant increase in demand for air conditioners, the home appliance industry has been impacted by the delayed high temperatures affecting the first half of the year, with companies like Sanyo Electric and Hesonic seeing a decline in performance in the first five months. On the other hand, Sharp Corporation has shown a 4% growth. The industry is gearing up for enhanced sales in the June to August peak season to catch up on the lag in performance from the first half of the year. Challenges such as diminishing benefits from energy-saving subsidies and inflation affecting consumer willingness to purchase appliances add to the operational challenges faced by the industry. Sharp Corporation's revenue in the first five months amounted to NTD 4.13 billion, with a 4% increase compared to the previous year, making it the top performer in the home appliance industry. Focus on the trends towards smaller homes and an aging population will drive future designs of appliances, with plans to enter the OEM market in Japan with the second brand 'Rui Zhi Air Conditioning'. Hesonic recorded a revenue of NTD 2.47 billion in the first five months, representing a 0.5% decrease compared to the previous year, with the first quarter seeing losses for the first time since its listing. The company anticipates a return to profitability in the second quarter and plans to launch a GOOGLE TV display in the third quarter, along with a focus on developing large light commercial air conditioners and AI smart home appliances. Sanyo Electric's revenue in the first five months was NTD 2.32 billion, a decrease of approximately 6.3% compared to the previous year, mainly due to lower-than-expected air conditioner sales and a return to normalcy in freezer sales. Efforts to capitalize on the peak season for home appliances from June to August are challenging due to increased shipping costs and the depreciation of the Taiwan dollar.
