Summer Solstice: Beware of Excessive Sun Exposure as Sun Directly Over Tropic of Cancer

Reported 8 months ago

Today marks the summer solstice as the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer, with sunlight exceeding 13 hours in Taiwan. Former director of the meteorological bureau, Cheng Mingdian, warns of the high risk of excessive ultraviolet radiation under the sun. In addition to being a solar term, the summer solstice is also a traditional festival in China, with customs like eating noodles to symbolize fresh wheat harvest and tasting newness. After the summer solstice, sunlight will gradually shift southward as days in the Northern Hemisphere shorten. The weather bureau cautions of high temperatures reaching 33 to 35 degrees and the possibility of thunderstorms in mountainous areas and valleys. Stay sun-safe and beware of heat-related illnesses during this hot day.
