Summer Youth Protection Action: Police Expand Inspections in KTVs and Internet Cafes

Reported 12 months ago

On July 1, 2024, at 8:08 am, the police initiated the Summer Youth Protection Action to safeguard teenagers during the upcoming summer break. The Taichung City Police Department's Second Division intensified patrols to protect teenagers as the frequency of youth activities outside increases during July to September, making them vulnerable to crimes or harm. The Second Division targeted places where teenagers gather, such as KTVs, poker rooms, arcades, and internet cafes, conducting extensive inspections with a strong police presence and planning increased patrols in other places frequented by youth to create a safer environment. The police checked each compartment to ensure no underage drinking or drug use, and educated youths and the public on crime prevention, distributed informational materials, and encouraged engaging in healthy and meaningful activities. After indoor inspections, the police enhanced night patrols, especially in public places like parks and internet cafes, focusing on security hotspots to deter potential illegal activities. Chief Zhou Junming emphasized the importance of safeguarding teenagers during the summer, particularly from drug-related crimes, fraud, and exposure to harmful environments, urging parents to monitor their children's activities and keep them away from harm.
