Lai Ching-te stated that parties supporting democracy and various sectors of society cannot accept any legislative actions that counter the constitution. The Kuomintang and People's Party strongly promoted the Legislative Empowerment Act, prompting the DPP legislative caucus to apply for constitutional interpretation. President Tsai Ing-wen, the Executive Yuan, and other government agencies will also follow suit. Lai emphasized that these actions aim to protect Taiwan's democratic values from being undermined by unconstitutional laws, not to destroy the constitution or disrupt democracy, as claimed by opposition parties. He reiterated opposition to expanding parliament's powers, emphasizing that while the DPP supports reasonable parliamentary reforms, it opposes legislative amendments that disregard constitutional order and democratic principles under the guise of reform.
