Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an expressed support for Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang, facing a recall crisis, stating that Hsieh's leadership has received affirmation from Keelung citizens. Chiang criticized recalls done solely for political reasons as damaging to democracy. There are discussions within the Kuomintang to raise the recall threshold, with Democratic Progressive Party caucus convener Ker Chien-ming warning this could backfire. Chiang Wan-an emphasized the importance of respecting election results and expressed willingness to support Hsieh in the future if needed.
