On July 4th, 2024, a Keelung fishing boat was suspected of engaging in a cross-border operation and was intercepted and inspected by a Japanese government vessel. The Coast Guard Administration confirmed the incident. The Taiwanese fishing vessel ‘Da Jinman 88’ was recently inspected and detained by the Chinese Coast Guard, taking the captain and six others to Fujian. Now, the Keelung fishing boat ‘Fu Yang 266’ was detained by a Japanese Fisheries Agency government vessel early on the 5th, with the captain and two others taken aboard, while the remaining six Indonesian crew members stayed on the boat. The Coast Guard Administration also provided the latest response, with the vessel allegedly violating local fishing regulations near Amami Oshima Island, leading to its interception by the Japanese authorities. The Fisheries Agency is currently coordinating with the Japanese side for processing the situation.
