Yahoo News reported on June 28, 2024, that the 'Swimming across Penghu Bay' event, held for over 20 years, will take place in the Penghu Inner Sea on the 30th of this month, with 1600 domestic and international swimmers participating. This year, the event introduces a new SUP category, with ambassador 'Zebra Brother' Chen Ziting attempting to cross 60 kilometers on a SUP to join the swimming event but had to be evacuated at the 45-kilometer mark due to strong winds and waves. The Penghu County government revealed that this year's event will have a total of 1600 swimmers competing in various categories, such as swimming distances of 5000 meters, 2000 meters, and 500 meters, as well as adding a 5000-meter SUP individual and group category. The event also includes a three-day 'SUP/Canoe Water Carnival Experience' at the Guanyin Pavilion area. This year marks the 22nd edition of the Penghu Bay swimming event, attracting over 20,000 swimmers to the Penghu region over the years.
