Swiss Selects Insider Schlegel to Lead SNB as Jordan Departs

Reported 9 months ago

Following the decision by the Swiss government not to appoint an outsider, Swiss National Bank Vice President Martin Schlegel has been chosen to succeed Thomas Jordan as the institution's next President. Schlegel, a 20-year veteran of the central bank, is known to be the preferred choice of Jordan and will be the second youngest chief in SNB's history. The government also announced the appointment of Petra Tschudin as the third member of the Governing Board, making her the second female interest-rate setter in SNB history. The new leadership is expected to maintain continuity in Swiss monetary policy, with Schlegel's risk-averse and cautious approach reflecting the direction set by Jordan. Schlegel's promotion follows the tradition of the SNB appointing long-term insiders to the top position.
