T-Mobile is purchasing U.S. Cellular's wireless operations and spectrum assets for $4.4 billion, expanding its customer base by 4 million and gaining control of about 30% of U.S. Cellular’s spectrum assets. The acquisition is expected to improve network coverage and capacity for customers and may lead to further industry consolidation. The deal includes a combination of cash and assumed debt, with U.S. Cellular customers gaining access to T-Mobile's 5G network without incurring switching costs.
