In the era of a severe labor shortage, some shortages may lead to business closures while others can result in loss of life. Recently, a fire at a building in Hsinchu City led to the tragic deaths of two firefighters, highlighting the issue of tight manpower in firefighting units. The vice chairman of the Firefighter Workers' Rights Promotion Association pointed out the low recruitment rate and the challenges of manpower shortage in dispatch. He emphasized the need for a firefighters' union to protect and communicate the rights of firefighters, drawing lessons from South Korea where firefighters successfully established a union after a long process of advocacy and negotiation with the government.
