The Taichung Power Plant experienced a coal conveyor belt fire in June 2021, causing significant air pollution in the Taichung area. The Taichung City Government's Environmental Protection Bureau fined Taipower 5 million NT dollars for this incident. Taipower appealed the decision, initially lost the case in the Taichung High Administrative Court, but later successfully overturned the ruling in the Supreme Administrative Court. The court determined that the original ruling had applied improper regulations and had errors in reasoning, leading to the overturning of the penalty decision. Taipower's appeal was upheld, leading to the dismissal of the fines and penalties imposed by the city government.
