Reported on June 23, 2024, at 6:53 am, the weather in Taiwan has been heating up recently, with high temperatures across the region. On June 22, the Central Weather Bureau issued an orange alert for Taipei City. This marked the first heatwave alert of the year for the city, prompting the Taipei City Government to activate heatwave preparedness measures to reduce negative impacts on residents. With increasing global temperatures, Taipei faces challenges due to its geographical location, which exacerbates the urban heat island effect. Since 2016, the Taipei City Government has established a heatwave alert system and included it in the local disaster prevention plan. Various city departments have mobilized to implement heat-related measures, including watering roads to reduce heat, caring for elderly residents, conducting labor checks, promoting food safety, and enhancing emergency medical response. Citizens are advised to stay indoors in well-ventilated or air-conditioned spaces, avoid outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and seek medical attention if experiencing heat-related symptoms.
