Taipei City Kindergartens and Elementary Schools Discontinue Summer Extended Care Services, Parents Concerned

Reported 11 months ago

Nearly half of Taipei City's public kindergartens and public elementary schools have discontinued their summer extended care services due to campus construction projects, leaving many working parents in a predicament as they are unable to accompany their children during the summer break. Parents have expressed urgency to Taipei City Councilor Chen Yi-chun, hoping the Education Bureau can coordinate children to attend nearby schools that have not suspended classes for extended care services, or come up with alternative solutions. The reasons for discontinuation cited by the Bureau include various renovation projects like roof waterproofing, wall reinforcement, noise insulation, painting corridors and classrooms, restroom improvements, and window and door refurbishments, all aiming to ensure child safety on school grounds. The lack of adequate support for children during summer breaks has prompted criticism from parents, urging Mayor Chiang Wan-an to address the issue and provide a solution for both parents and students to have peace of mind during this time.
