Deputy Chief Lin Yue-kuan of the Taipei Police Department's Zhongzheng First Precinct experienced a sudden asthma attack on the night of June 23, being rushed to the hospital by family members and slipping into a coma upon arrival. He was then put on life-saving ECMO treatment, but thankfully, his condition has stabilized and he is currently under observation in the intensive care unit. Pediatrician Lin Ying-ran alerted that those with asthma history or allergic constitutions are high-risk groups for asthma attacks. It was found that the acute asthma attack was likely triggered by a pneumococcal infection, but Dr. Lin emphasized that the root cause could be the patient's allergic constitution or existing asthma condition rather than the bacteria, cautioning against various asthma triggers like smoking, air pollution, dust, and rapid temperature changes.
