Taipei's private East Mountain High School's junior high department welcomed 142 more students than allowed without permission, leading to an apology from the school today (6/21) stating that due to an oversight in the admissions process, the number of new students exceeded the approved quota. The school will refund fees and provide compensation. The Education Bureau mentioned that East Mountain High School may face the most severe punishment of ceasing admissions and a fine of $1.5 million. The school has started notifying parents that some accepted students cannot attend due to failure to coordinate with the Education Bureau to add classes.
