In Taipei, a man surnamed Zhou was sentenced to 10 days in jail for stealing an umbrella from a convenience store's umbrella stand during heavy rain. Zhou took the umbrella belonging to a man surnamed Lin, who reported the incident to the authorities. The court considered Zhou's circumstances, intelligence level, and post-crime attitude, and with the agreement of compensation between Zhou and Lin, sentenced Zhou for theft according to the Criminal Code.
